Menopause is a natural transition in a woman’s life that leads to the cessation of menstrual cycles with or without a wide range of symptoms. The most common menopausal symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness and mood swings. For many women, menopause is a time in their lives of reflection, of looking at past decisions, learning from them and making new choices in the future. It can be a call to awaken courage within and stimulate a re-commitment to life.
“Since we began addressing my health concerns, my anxiety has greatly improved. I can now fall asleep, my sleep medication is cut in half for staying asleep, my emotions are improved, my concentration is better, and my hot flashes are gone”. Kathy H, Vista, CA
The intensity that a woman may experience menopause ranges from no symptoms to a horrific experience. Conventional medicine sees this condition as simply a hormonal imbalance involving the 3 estrogens, progesterone, and testosterone. It is treated, often very successfully, with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This can be a wonderful solution for some women, however the longer a person takes HRT, the more the body is dependent on it. This means that many times, much work is required to support the body in coming off of HRT.
At Vitalia, we look at the whole person in relationship to the unique menopausal symptoms the woman is experiencing. We consider the state of the adrenal glands, the thyroid, blood sugar control, and liver metabolism of hormones in assessing every menopausal woman. Chronic stress is a major factor and underlying cause for many women going through menopause. This makes adrenal testing and analysis a fabulous tool to guide Naturopathic doctors in creating treatment plans that support and rejuvenate these essential organs. These and many other factors are used at Vitalia to help decrease the symptoms and treat the cause of menopause in our patients.
