Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic widespread pain and a heightened response to pressure, with often a slight touch causing an extreme pain response. It is often associated with fatigue, sleep disturbance and generalized joint pain. Many patients will also be affected by anxiety, depression and stress disorders.
What is the difference between Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities?
In fact, there is very little difference between these three chronic health issues. The “only difference in diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome is musculoskeletal pain in fibromyalgia and fatigue in chronic fatigue” (Clinician’s book of Natural Medicine, pg125). Many people with one of these syndromes will have all three. Research has shown that more than 50% of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia patients have adverse reactions to various chemicals.

At Vitalia, we look for the underlying issues in the body that are causing the health disturbance. Adrenal testing can be extremely valuable in identifying the cause of chronic inflammation and fatigue. Many of our patients with fibromyalgia feel better after a liver supportive cleanse. They often report feeling rejuvenated, energized and with a clearer brain. Identifying and eliminating food sensitivities in the diet is often extremely beneficial as well. The knowledge of how foods affect your symptoms can be extremely valuable. Many patients have found it empowering!
